A Change.

Hello! Before you click out of here because you think you've stumbled on the wrong blog, wait! It's still me (us). For a while, I've been toying with the idea of changing the blog's previous title, And Baby Makes Four. It wasn't the most original name (I was like 8 months pregnant when I started the blog, okay!?), and "four" isn't exactly entirely accurate anyway. Sure, Carl, Lily, Hudson (our beloved Lab) and I make four, but Carl's son and Lily's brother, Ryland, is very much a part of our family even though he doesn't live in San Antonio with us.

In reality, we're five, and hopefully one day in the future, we will be six, and maybe seven, and so on.

As for the "modern-day love story" tagline, well, ours is very much a non-traditional journey. You can read more here, but in a nutshell: Carl and I were engaged in April 2010, and discovered we were expecting in October of that year. Fast forward to today, and we're both doing our very best to manage work, grad/law school, our young family, and planning our future (wedding included).

So, Letters to Lily just seems to fit better. This is, afterall, my modern-day baby book and valentine to our baby girl. With a new name, I decided, should come a new look. And so, here it is. I'll be tweaking over the next few days/weeks and adding more content, plus a belated 9-month update for my sweet little namesake. And one day, I will redirect our URL to make it match our new name. One thing at a time, ya'll :)

For now, I'm just easing into the change. I think I like it. I hope you do, too.

hello out there.

Hi. I don't know if there is anyone still even reading this little blog of mine, but if you are, hi :)

There are a million reasons I've been scarce around here lately, but we won't go into them. I reminded myself today that the purpose of this blog is to one day be able to share our photographs and stories with Lily. I have decided that although my blog doesn't come with a ton of bells and whistles like the bigger blogs do (giveaways, how-to's, sponsors, etcetera), this is our space to share the life we are making for our baby girl and I don't want to not update it because I'm overwhelmed by the idea of an editorial calendar for our blog.

Sure, overtime, I'd like to grow the blog into something a little different, when I can invest more time into it, but for now, I'm going to do my very best to honor what I had originally set out to do: celebrate Lily and remember the little things. She turned nine months old on Friday and I really can't let any more time go by without documenting it.

With that said, here's a little overview of the past month (plus) around here (thank you, Instagram!).

Icky Guilt

Monday, March 5, 2012

Hello, out there! If you're here and reading this poor, neglected blog, then I say good Monday morning to you!

As I type this, Lily is sound asleep, Carl is working on a paper at the kitchen table, and I am on the couch, sipping a cup of tea, feeling more calm than I have in weeks months. Let me take a few moments to explain my absence... At the end of January, one of my bosses resigned pretty suddenly. It was an unexpected departure and really rattled the small communications team at the museum where I work. What was once a three-person team (plus one intern), shrank to a two-person team virtually overnight. It was a chance--a good change--but one that includes juggling countless projects, deadlines, responsibilities...I'm sure you can imagine.

Pair that with 500+ pages of literature I'm assigned each week as part of my grad school program, plus household duties and of course the responsibilities of being a fiance and a mama, and I had been feeling overwhelmed for a while. Honestly, I felt too guilty to blog unless the reading was done and the house was in order. I felt guilty and uninspired and kind of overwhelmed by the prospect of putting my thoughts on paper (erm, virtually?) and pretending I had it all together. FINALLY, after weeks and weeks of feeling somehow ill-suited to juggle all of this, I've done it. Things at work are settling into a manageable pace, our home is clean, school is still hectic (but Spring Break is in sight!) and I finally feel like I can spare a few minutes to blog guilt-free.

With that said, I've got a ton of pictures and updates I'd like to share, and I will, over the next few days. For now, I wanted to share this beautiful download I found here, because if you're anything like me, you could use a little reminder once in a while.
